About this Project
The Florida Department of Transportation has completed making capacity and safety improvements to Interstate 275 in Pinellas County, Florida from north of Roosevelt Boulevard to 4th Street North. The project increased capacity by adding lanes in each direction; improved the ramp entrances and exits; and created a safer highway corridor through lighting improvements.
Improvement highlights for the I-275 corridor included:
- Widenening the interstate from 4-lanes to 8-lanes from Roosevelt Boulevard to 4th Street.
- Increasing Ulmerton Rd. entrance ramp to northbound I-275 from 1-lane to 2-lanes.
- Improving ramp entrances and exits at 4th Street North and Dr. Martin Luther King Street (9th Street North).
- Constructing a ramp to access southbound I-275 from Ulmerton Road.
- Constructing a ramp to connect eastbound Ulmerton Road to southbound Martin Luther King, Jr. Street.
- Rehabilitating concrete slabs in the original travel lanes.
- Grinding all lanes (new and existing) to provide an even surface area.
- Activating the ramp connections for the County Road 296 Connector project (ramp from southbound I-275 to County Road 296 and ramp from County Road 296 to northbound I-275).
