About this Project
The Florida Department of Transportation's (FDOT) contractor removed (milled) and resurfaced (paved) the asphalt travel lanes and interchange ramps from Branch Forbes Road (Exit 17) to just west of Memorial Boulevard (Exit 28). In Polk County, the milling and resurfacing was on eastbound I-4 only and no work was done on the concrete portion of the pavement.
Three westbound exit ramps were also widened, adding about 1,000 feet of right turn lanes to these ramps. These ramps were the westbound I-4 exit ramps at Branch Forbes Road (Exit 17), Thonotosassa Road (Exit 19), and Park Road (Exit 22).
Detours were needed from time to time for the ramp work. Ramp detours were used from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. as needed and no two ramps at interchanges next to each other were closed at the same time.
There was also some drainage work in this project; most noticeable was the pond construction at the Park Road interchange.
