About this Project
The Florida Department of Transportation's (FDOT) contractor replaced bridge decks and widened the Selmon Expressway (State Road 618) from west of Morgan Street to east of 19th Street.

This project was a design-build project that was awarded to the team of Granite Construction Company (contractor) and Parsons Transportation Group (designer).

Bridge deck panels were replaced with cast-in-place concrete bridge decks from west of Morgan Street to just east of 12th Street.

Roadway widening was completed in the eastbound direction from Washington Street to east of 19th Street; westbound from east of 19th Street to west of Morgan Street.

Public impacts
Parking lots under the Selmon Expressway were closed periodically due to construction activities. Drivers were alerted by the parking lot owners well in advance of the closures.

Traffic was reduced to a single-lane in each direction on the west end of the project around-the-clock during the first half of 2012.

Night Work
In order to maintain the construction schedule and to minimize the impact to the traveling public, lane closures (hours listed below) and construction activities were used mostly during nighttime hours.

Lane Closure Hours
Westbound Selmon Expressway: 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Eastbound Selmon Expressway: 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
