Traffic detoured off southbound I-275 two to three nights

8/28/2015 8:00:00 AM - I-275 Widening from east of SR 60 to downtown Tampa (Hillsborough River)

Tampa, FL -- Southbound I-275 will be closed to all traffic from the Hillsborough River to west of West Shore Boulevard from 12:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 1 and from 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 1 to 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 2. [If needed, the detour may also be used from 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 2 to 5:30 a.m. Thursday, September 3.]

No vehicles will be allowed to enter southbound I-275 at any ramp from downtown to Lois Avenue during the detour hours. Westbound I-4 traffic merging onto southbound I-275 will also be directed to the same detour.

Traffic will be detoured off at Exit 45A and directed south on Ashley Drive. Motorists will then turn right onto Kennedy Boulevard (State Road 60) and proceed west. Here are directions back onto I-275 and to major routes once on Kennedy Boulevard:

DETOUR back onto Southbound I-275 to St. Petersburg: Continue west on Kennedy Boulevard to the entrance ramp west of WestShore Plaza (left turn at signal and continue to the end of Kennedy Boulevard onto the entrance ramp).

DETOUR for Southbound I-275 to Howard Avenue, Himes Avenue, Dale Mabry, Lois Avenue and West Shore Boulevard: Continue west on Kennedy Boulevard. As you continue west, turn on any of these crossroads.

DETOUR for Southbound I-275 to Westbound SR 60: Continue west on Kennedy Boulevard and continue under I-275 on State Road 60 (Memorial Highway) towards Tampa International Airport.

Motorists may find some backups on southbound I-275 and westbound I-4 during these hours; drivers should plan at least 15 extra minutes into their travel schedule to make it through the detour route.
